What does sisterhood really mean?
Sorority women are connected by their rituals, philanthropic causes, values and sometimes living arrangements. At some point along the way, they become sisters. Sisterhood is not a bond that happens overnight; just like forming a friendship, it takes time and effort. However, sisterhood is one of the most rewarding aspects of sorority membership.
In ADPi, we cherish our sisterhood. These bonds will not only remain through college, but for life.
“Sisterhood means way more than one word can describe. Sisterhood means endless support in good times and in bad. It means screaming your favorite songs at the top of your lungs with your best friends. It means ugly crying in your pjs on a Saturday night surrounded by sisters because you had a rough week. Sisterhood means looking around the room and feeling nothing short of your true self. There is no other group of genuine, driven, talented, supportive women that I would want to surround myself with. We live for each other and we live for Alpha Delta Pi.” -Kate Zangla, Class of 2021
“Sisterhood is a word with limitless meanings. Sisterhood is knowing that you are always supported by talented, smart, and considerate women that will never leave you. It’s knowing there will always be a shoulder to cry on or someone to laugh endlessly with. It’s realizing that these connections will last a lifetime no matter what. Sisterhood is knowing that we live for each other.” -Alli Viscardo, Sisterhood Program Specialist
Ronald McDonald House Charities
Our national philanthropy is the Ronald McDonald House Charities. In 1979, Alpha Delta Pi became the first and only organization allowed to make the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) its official, international philanthropy. RMHC provides care, comfort, and a "home-away-from-home" for seriously ill children receiving treatments nearby. The Theta Delta Chapter is fortunate enough to have an RMH close by in Wilmington, Delaware. We raise money through events that we hold within the Greek community. We usually visit repeatedly throughout the year, but due to COVID, we've been helping by deliver meal kits and sending cards.
"Our philanthropy, Ronald McDonald House Charities, is an amazing organization that provides families whose child is staying in the hospital meals and a place to stay. Families stay for as long as they need. As RMHC chair, my job is to contact our local RMHC and set up events with them! We volunteer by taking trips to our local RMHC in Wilmington, DE, to do crafts and play games with the children to relieve the parents for a few hours and bring smiles to their faces. In times of COVID, we are doing our best to support from afar." -Megan Spiotta, RMHC Chair
B+ Foundation
The Theta Delta Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi has gladly adopted the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation as our local Philanthropy.
“The Theta Delta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi supports The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation in their fight against childhood cancer. The B+ foundation focuses on providing financial assistance to families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer, as well as funding cancer research. Our Theta Delta sister, Ali McDonough, and her family started the B+ foundation after her brother Andrew passed away from pediatric cancer at the age of 14. Our chapter is proud to spread the message of the B+ Foundation, reminding our sisters and others to “Live Like Andrew” and “Be Positive.” Our year-long fundraising efforts for UDance, a dance marathon that benefits the B+ Foundation, reflect our commitment to the B+ Foundation and our passion for the fight against childhood cancer.
As B+/UDance co-chairs, Jill & I connect with our B+ Hero, Drew, and plan events with him to show our support and create a positive relationship between Drew and our chapter. We are also responsible for communicating with our sisters about different UDance events and fundraising activities!“ -Lauren Rechner, B+ Chair
